Well here we are at the end of another year. 2022 is knocking on the door while some of us are still working on sorting out 2020. This year has gone by in a flash, but before it is gone I have a little news to share.
For the past nearly four years, it has been my privilege/profession to work in the marketing department for Pentel of America. As of December 23rd 2021, my watch has ended, I have resigned. During my time with Pentel I had the opportunity to shape the direction of both new and classic products in a category I deeply care about. I got to see new projects that are yet to be announced, and I spent all of my professional time thinking about pens. I feel as though that probably contributed to me not wanting to think about pens in my personal time, and thus led to a reduction in my posts here. That’s a bummer, but this blog has always been a hobby. It pays absolutely zero bills.
As I embark on a new career path (still in marketing, but in a different industry) I’m really looking forward to pens and stationery becoming a hobby again. Not just something I enjoy, but something I feel compelled to talk about beyond the constraints of billable hours. This also means that my professional bias is no longer an issue, which means I’ll feel comfortable talking about various over-the-counter level pens and notebooks. In particular, those coming down the road from my former employer. To those who seek innovation and exciting new products in the retail pen and pencil market, keep an eye on Pentel. That’s all I can say.
Also, a minor note. I recently added a “Support the Blog” button to the side menu. While I don’t have any intention of starting a Patreon or monetizing this blog in one way or another, I do see it fair to add a ‘tip jar’ of sorts. This blog has been and shall remain self-funded with the occasional review of product I receive for free. However, if you enjoy what I produce, and want to support it, that button will take you to a kofi page where you can toss a coin to your penman.
I’m looking forward to 2022, dear reader. I hope you are as well!
Stay warm, stay safe, and keep writing.
